Can Dolphins survive in snow? Forecast shows Orchard Park in storm’s target zone | will it snow in florida

The latest weather reports call for lake effect snow to fall on Highmark Stadium on Saturday night when the Buffalo Bills host the Miami Dolphins in an AFC East showdown in primetime.

According to WGRZ chief meteorologist Patrick Hammer, temperatures are expected to be in the 20s, with potential wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour. He added that snowfall at kickoff and during the game could range from moderate to heavy.

The Bills practiced outside on Wednesday and will likely do the same on Thursday to help prepare for the elements on game day. Safety Jordan Poyer said that getting outside during the week helps get players’ bodies ready.

“It’s something we embrace. … Over the course of my career,” Poyer said. “I’ve learned how to do it, and I’ve tried to pass my knowledge off to some of the younger guys on how to prepare yourself for how to play in those games.”

The Dolphins play in warm temperatures down in Florida most of the year. When the two teams played back in September, the Bills struggled in the intense heat – especially with their sideline directly in the sun.

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has struggled in cold weather during his career. QBR is a stat that considers a player’s passing, rushing, sacks, penalties etc., and spits out a number at the end. The three lowest QBR games of Tagovailoa’s career have come in games with temperatures below 45 degrees, including in 2020 in Buffalo when it was 35 degrees at kickoff.

Saturday night could be colder than any of those three games.

Miami coach Mike McDaniel told reporters on Wednesday that he’s not going to monitor the weather at all before this weekend’s game. He’s just told his players that each one has to decide whether it’ll matter or not.

Tagovailoa said he threw in 20-degree snowy weather in Maryland last offseason on a trip to visit his brother.

“It felt really good to throw while it was snowing,” he said. I didn’t feel any effects of throwing in the snow.”
