Escaped murderer caught walking on Florida highway

An escaped murderer was nabbed walking along a Florida highway over the weekend, authorities said.

On Friday, Anthony Moret, 67, escaped from Valdosta Transitional Center in Georgia, where he was serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for murder, officials said.

Officials issued an alert for the wanted man, and he was picked up a day later by law enforcement as he strolled along southbound I-75 in Charlotte County.

Troopers found Moret on the side of the road around 6 a.m. Saturday, according to FOX 13. After finding Moret, a trooper ran a wanted and warrants check and discovered Moret had an active warrant against him for escaping.

The Georgia Department of Corrections had issued a warning Friday with a description of Moret, and urged residents to not approach him.

Georgia court records show Moret is serving a life sentence for murder and armed robbery dating back to the 1970s. Moret has two prior convictions on escape charges from 1976 and 1985.
