Final Road Weekend in C-USA Play Awaits Volleyball in Florida


CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte volleyball heads to FIU on Friday followed by Florida Atlantic on Sunday to wrap up the road portion of Conference USA action for 2022. The 49ers play both in Florida before hosting Middle Tennessee and North Texas in the regular season finales next weekend.
 
FIRST TIME AROUND
Back in early October, Florida Atlantic (13-10, 3-8 C-USA) scored a five-set win in Halton Arena before Charlotte (8-14, 2-8) scored a 3-1 victory over FIU (7-17, 4-6) two days later. The 49ers hit .391 in the victory against the Panthers and out-blocked the visitors 12-6. Emani’ Foster threw down 27 digs hitting .421 while Jessica Ricks added 12 kills on a .579 hitting afternoon.
 
ADJUSTING ALL-TIME
Charlotte tightened the all-time series with FIU after October’s win and can even it at 11 wins apiece with a victory Friday night. FAU snapped a four-game skid with their 3-2 win last month and now lead the all-time series 15-6.
 
MILESTONES APPROACHING; WEATHERINGTON NEEDS ONE
Charlotte has a few career milestones approaching as the 2022 season winds down. Foster needs just 12 kills to hit 1,000 in her career becoming the 20th player in history to do so. Foster needs just seven blocks to hit 100 blocks as well. Sophie Whalen needs 107 digs to hit 1,000 in her career, Amani McArthur needs just seven kills for 500 and Annika Thompson needs 152 assists for 1,000 in her career. Head Coach Karen Weatherington secured her 200th career win with a thrilling five-set victory on the road at Virginia. Another milestone is rapidly approaching as the Niners need just one more victory for Weatherington to secure 100 here at Charlotte.
 
LEADING C-USA AND NATIONALLY TOP-10
Foster continues her 2022 season tear continuing to lead Conference USA in kills (425) and attacks/set (13.05) which both rank third nationwide. Foster is fifth in the country in points/set (5.60), sixth in points (470.5) and kills/set (5.06) which also lead Conference USA.
