Gators to Open 2022 Slate at Lubbock 15K on Monday


LUBBOCK, Texas – Florida women’s tennis is slated to kick-off the 2022 fall season on Monday, Sept. 19 when a contingent of Gators travel to Lubbock, Texas, for the Lubbock 15K event, hosted by Texas Tech.
 
TOURNAMENT DETAILS
The event will begin on Monday with qualifying singles acting as the opener, while the first day of the main singles draw will start on Tuesday. The singles draw will feature 32 athletes while the doubles draw is set to welcome 16 duos. Alicia Dudeney and Bente Spee will begin in the qualifying round while Anastasia Sysoeva will begin on Tuesday in the main draw.
 
PRESEASON ITA RANKINGS
A pair of Gators find themselves ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason rankings that was revealed on Sept. 6. In singles competition, Alicia Dudeney entered the rankings tied for 119th while Dudeney and freshman Rachel Gailis are ranked 50th in doubles.
 
STATEMENT YEAR
Sophomore Alicia Dudeney returns for the 2022-23 campaign after making a big impact during her freshman season. En route to earning Second Team All-SEC honors and being named to the SEC All-Freshman team, Dudeney led the Gators in total singles victories (28-9) and doubles victories (30-11).
 
SUMMER OPENER
Entering 2022-23 as a freshman, Sysoeva put together an impressive summer in advance of her first season with the Gators. The Sarasota, Fla., native’s summer culminated in a runner-up finish at the 2022 ITA National Summer Championships, where she fell in a three-set thriller to Michigan sophomore, Julia Fliegner.
 
LAST SEASON

The 2022 season came to an end as the best season for Florida since the 2017 campaign. The Orange & Blue collected 21 wins and earned a spot in the Super Regional, marking their deepest run in the NCAA Tournament since winning the national championship in 2017. It also marked the 39th (of a possible 40) NCAA tournament appearance for the program in addition to the 35th-consecutive appearance. The Gators also hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament for the 21st time in program history.
