Putnam’s 1st Snow Day set for Tuesday | will it snow in florida

Let it snow. There’s frosty fun coming to the Palatka riverfront next week.

The Palatka Daily News and Positively Putnam sponsors are bringing Snow Day to the city from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday.

“We are excited about Snow Day and look forward to everyone having a fun, family-friendly experience,” Daily News Publisher Jennifer Moates stated.

The afternoon event will feature a dual snow slide and bring a total of 16 tons of snow to the Palatka riverfront. There will be two play areas with snow, a selfie Photo Booth and free face painting.

Attendees should bring their own cameras or phone for photos. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

The Putnam County Fire Department, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and Palatka Police Department plan to be there with vehicles and other fun.

This is the event’s first year and comes as part of efforts of the Positively Putnam campaign that began in 2020 and focuses on “encouraging Putnam County residents to see the great things going on in our community all year long,” Moates said.

Sponsor Wayne McClain said the Positively Putnam initiative continues to be a great one and the event is going to give Florida children the chance to experience something they might have never felt: snow.

“I think that’s going to be pretty darn awesome,” he said. It’ll be something these kids never forget.”

Moates, who thanked all the sponsors who are helping make the event possible, said she hopes Snow Day becomes an annual tradition.

Mary Kaye Wells, the newspaper’s director of advertising, hopes there will be many families who come out to play in the snow. Wells and other newspaper employees have been working for months to put together Snow Day.

“I am so excited to be able to bring ‘snow’ to Putnam County,” Wells stated. “During winter break seemed to be the perfect time for an event that would get families out to have fun.”
